（建物の前で着陸。出迎への男にカルヴァート、手を振る）

「やあ。」
~~~Hunslett. Well, Philip Calvert. You look well. How was Malta?
「やあ、フィリップ・カルヴァート。顔色、いいな。マルタはどうだつた？」
~~~Calvert. A bloody sight warmer than here. How are you?
You look smart. Good clothing allowance in intelligence.
「ここよりはずつと暑いね。君の方はどうだ？　いでたちが立派ぢやないか。スパイ稼業で、服装の予算も出たのか？」
~~~Hunslett. We get an allowance for ball-point pens and paper clips.
「予算はボールペンとクリップのためだけだね。」
~~~Calvert. Ah, danger lurks behind every filing cabinet.
「ファイルのキャビネットの後ろには危険が潜んでゐる。そんな様子だな。」
（二人、建物に入り、受付でカルヴァート、証明書を渡す）
~~~Calvert. How's it feel to be at Headquarters? The Mediterranean fleet will be floundering. Why am I here?
「本部にゐるつてのはどんな気分なのかな？　地中海の艦船はお陰でよろめいてゐるんぢやないか？　ところで、どうして僕はここに来たんだ？」
（受付、カルヴァートの証明書を返しながら）
~~~受付. All right, sir.
「どうぞ。（お入り下さい）」
~~~Hunslett. That was my idea, actually.
「君をここに呼んだのは、実際は僕の考へなんだ。」
We've got this sort of problem, you see, and you being so clever with nautical things, underwater and all that.
「海での事件があつてね、君は航海のこと、潜り、その他この関係に強いからね。」
~~~Calvert. You mean if it's wet, I'm your man.
「ああ、濡れる仕事ね。それなら僕の得手だ。」
~~~Hunslett. So to speak.
「さう、『濡れる仕事』だ、言つてみれば。」
~~~Calvert. So am I going to be the world's first underwater spy? That's funny. I like that.
「すると僕は、世界で最初の『水中スパイ』つてことか。」
~~~Hunslett. No. It's about these ships. Bullion vessels. Hijacked off the face of the earth or rather the high seas.
「いや、厳密に言ふと『水中』ではないね。金塊運搬の船だ、実は。どこへ消えたか、ハイジャックされて地上から消えた、いや、水上から消えたと言ふべきか。」
~~~Calvert. Who by? Human exiles?
「誰にやられた？　浮浪者にか？」
~~~Hunslett. Philip, please. It is, as they say, a matter of national importance.
「フィリップ、頼む。冗談事ぢやない。これは、所謂、国家的大事件なんだ。」
~~~Calvert. I doubt the nation gives a damn. It's not their gold.
「国がそんなことを大事に思ふかな。一顧だにしない、つてところぢやないか？　連中の金塊ぢやないんだから。」
~~~Hunslett. The same story each time.
「これに類する事件が頻発してゐるんだ。」
Crews put ashore in some place in ireland then released, by which time the ships are taken to God knows where.
「船の乗組員をどこかの島に下ろして、それから解放する。その間に船はどこへ行つたか、皆目見当もつかない。」
~~~Calvert. What are we supposed to do to save the nation for democracy?
「民主主義のために国を助ける、か。それで何をしやうつていふんだ。」
~~~Hunslett. Between the two of us, Philip -

with my organisational genius and your physical talents - we must evolve a master plan to take before the chief.

I see that like all men employed in highly-specialised branches, you have a questionable attitude towards authority.
「専門的には非常にすぐれてゐる人間の常だが、君も権威に対しては問題のある態度をとる男だな。」
I don't know that I care for that. It says here, ''Unsuitable for routine investigation. Operates best under extreme pressure."

~~~Sir Arthur. I'm not happy about this...（カルヴァート、勝手に坐る。仕方なく、自分が許す）Yes. Do sit down.

I'm not happy about this, Calvert.
「いいか、カルヴァート、私はここは気に入らないのだ。」
I should have preferred my own men with the assistance of （近くにいる男を指し示し）Lord Charnley and Lloyds, of course.
「私は勿論、私が使つてゐる男が、我々、即ち私とこの、ロード・チャーンリー・アンド・ロイド（これは最後になつて分りますが、悪い方の男です）、の、手助けになつて欲しいだけだ。」
I have everybody breathing down my neck.
「つまり、私の下で働いて欲しいといふことだ。」
The Admiralty, the government, the Americans and the insurance assessors - grubby little men with gabardine raincoats and dandruff.

~~~Sir Arthur. Hunslett. Hunslett. What have you come up with?
「ハンスレットか。ああ、ハンスレット、何の用だ？」
~~~Calvert. Right. it's this. Let's conceal two men with a transmitter on the next bullion ship, so if she's hijacked we'll know where she is.
「私が代りに。次の金塊輸送船に、こちらの人間を二人潜入させます。二人には通信機を持たせ、船がハイジャックされた場合に備へます。」
The men can send signals at prearranged times and frequencies and we can take bearings.
「二人は決められた時刻、決められた波長で、こちらに連絡します。こちらは記録をとる。」
It may be that Mr Hunslett and myself could then shadow the ship.
「ハンスレットと私が船の後をつけます。」
~~~Charnley. Could men be concealed like that? It seems rather far-fetched.
「人間を船に潜入、そんなこと出来るのか？　ちよつと無理のやうに思ふが。」
~~~Sir Arthur. I don't like it. it's too dangerous. Too many ifs and buts.

~~~Calvert. With all due respect, you haven't had an if or a but. The next ship is the Nanceville.

Eight million quids' worth of gold bullion. Surely that's worth a risk or two?

~~~Calvert. OK. I met them last night. They should be able
to take care of themselves.

~~~Sir Arthur. They're excellent men. They can certainly look after themselves. Show them in, Mr...
「二人とも優秀な奴だ。自分の面倒ぐらゐ自分で見る。二人を呼べ、ミスター・・・」
~~~Hunslett. Hunslett.（と、隣の部屋への扉を開けて、呼ぶ）Come in, gentlemen.
「ハンスレット。どうぞ。入つて。」
（二人の男、入つて来る。冒頭の殺されてゐた二人である）

（冒頭の場面に戻る。船の中に男。カルヴァートが来るのを待ち受けて、襲う。カルヴァート、相手のナイフを押へる。男、味方を呼ぶ）
~~~男. Henry! Up here, quickly.
「ヘンリー。こつちだ。早く！」
~~~Henry.（部下に命じて）Voltec. You go round the back. Come on!
「ヴォルテック。お前は後ろに廻れ。さ、行け！」
（カルヴァート、船についていた照明弾を爆破させ、相手の目をそちらに逸らせる。自分は海に飛び込む）
~~~Henry. Pick him up.
「奴を捕まえろ。」

（朝。カルヴァート、ボートを漕いで、ハンスレットの船（つまり二人で一緒に乗つてきた船）に近づく）
~~~Hunslett. How did it go?
「どうだつた？」
~~~Calvert. Not good. Let's get out of this armour.
「まづいね。この衣裳を脱ぐのを最初にしよう。」
~~~Hunslett. What was not good about it?
「何がまづかつたんだ？」
~~~Calvert. Too strong an opposition.
「敵の抵抗が強過ぎた。」
~~~Hunslett. They were good men.
「二人とも優秀なんだがな。」
~~~Calvert. The enemy were better.
「敵の方が上手だつた。」
~~~Hunslett. Uncle Arthur won't like this.
「アンクル・アーサーはこの成行きを好まないね。」
~~~Calvert. Do you think I like it?
「僕が好むと、君は思つてゐるのか？」
~~~Hunslett. So much for our plan.
「我々の計画が、それだけのことだつたといふ点なんだ、まづいのは。」
~~~Calvert. They were able to transmit and we were able to follow. It was all justified - if you discount loss of llfe, that is.
「敵はこつちの裏をかくことが出来た。そして、こつちは、『敵がこつちの裏をかいた』と知ることが出来た。その情報の確保で、計画の目的の一部は達せられた。ただ、こつちは命を失つてゐる。それが損失だ。」
~~~Hunslett. Do you?
「その損失をさつ引くことが出来るのか？」
~~~Calvert. No, l don't. That's the trouble.
「いや、出来ない。そこが問題だ。」
~~~Hunslett. Here. I made something to drink.（と、ココアをカルヴァートに渡す）
「さあ、飲物だ。」
~~~Calvert. You've been having a hard night.
「一晩嫌な夜を過したね。」
~~~Hunslett. I'm intelligence, aren't I? I have to stay in and think while you go out and implement.
「僕だつてスパイのはしくれだ。君が出て、仕事をしてゐる間、考へるのは考へたよ。」
~~~Calvert. I get half strangled and kicked to death while you sit here making... bloody cocoa.
「こつちが首を絞められて、死ぬほど殴られてゐる間、君はここに坐つて、この酷いココアを作つてゐた。さういふことか。」
~~~Hunslett. It's what I do well.
「ココア作りは得意だからね。」
~~~Calvert. Let's have some whisky. You'd better bandage my leg. We don't want blood all over the floor, do we? Do you want some?
「ウイスキーにしよう。足に包帯をしてくれ。床一面血だらけにするのは嫌だらう？　（ウイスキーをすすめて）一杯どうだ？」
~~~Hunslett. No.
「いらない。」
（とカルヴァートの足の手当をする）
~~~Hunslett. The Nanceville will be halfway to God knows where by now.
「今ごろもうナンスヴィッルは遥かかなたに行つてるだらうな。」
~~~Calvert. Yes, I know. But they did come here in the first place,
「うん、分つてる。しかし兎に角、あの船はここには確かに来た。」
so we could assume that the area's significant and they could have people in the area. And we're new arrivals in Torbay.
「だから、この場所は意味があるんだ。それに乗組員をこのあたりで下ろしてゐる可能性がある。それに我々はここトーベイでは、新顔だ。」
God Almighty! You're hurting me more than that bastard on the ship.
「痛い！　あの船の連中より荒療治だな。」
~~~Hunslett. Sorry. we didn't learn first aid in intelligence. Is that tight enough? OK?
「すまんすまん。スパイ教育に応急手当がなかつたのでね。これでいいかな？」
~~~Calvert. Yeah. Thanks. What time is it?
「ああ、有難う。今何時だ？」
~~~Hunslett. 6:25. We have to radio Uncle Arthur at eight. He does get to work early.
「6時25分。8時にアンクル・アーサーに無線連絡しなきや。朝早いんだ、仕事は。」

（本部。サー・アーサー、事務室に入つて来る。無線係の男、挨拶して）
~~~無線係. Good morning, sir.
「お早うございます、サー。」
~~~Sir Arthur. Any news from Buttercup?
「バターカップから連絡があつたか。」
~~~無線係. Buttercup?
「バターカップ？」
~~~Sir Arthur. Daisy.
「ああ、デイズィーだ。」
~~~無線係. Oh, you mean Caroline, sir. Any moment now.
「ああ、キャロラインのことですね。もうすぐです。」
（こちら、カルヴァート。船倉に行き、擬装した無線機を取出し、聞く。本部から無線係の声）
~~~無線係. 'This is Annabel calling Caroline. Use the scrambler procedure.'
「こちらアナベル。キャロラインか。スクランブル処理をせよ。（これは無線の傍受を妨害する手段）」
~~~Calvert. Good morning. This is Caroline. May I speak to Annabel?
「お早う。こちらキャロライン。アナベルと話したい。」
~~~Sir Arthur. Good morning, Caroline. This is Annabel.
「お早う、キャロライン。こちらアナベル。」
~~~Calvert. Location 481 .281 . 'west of Scotland. A place called Loch Huron.'
「現在位置481の281。スコットランドの西。ロック・ヒューロンといふ場所。」
（サー・アーサー、後ろの地図を開け、場所を確かめる）
~~~Sir Arthur. I have you. Have you located the missing vessel?
「位置、了解。例の船は分つたのか。」
~~~Calvert. 'I have.'
「分りました。」
~~~Sir Arthur. Where is it?
「どこにゐる。」
~~~Calvert. Where was it, you mean. Could be a hundred miles away by now. Different colours, different markings, different flags.
「どこにゐたか、といふことですね？　今では、ここから百マイル離れたところにゐるかもしれません。おまけに違ふ色、違ふ標識、違ふ旗で。」
~~~Sir Arthur. 'What about our friends?'
「例のこちらからの二人はどうなつた。」
~~~Calvert. They won't be coming home. I've been aboard but I was expected.
「連中、本部には戻れません。私は船に上りましたが、待ち伏せされました。」
~~~Sir Arthur. 'I warned you about this, Caroline.'
「おい、キャロライン、言はんことぢやないぢやないか。」
（甲板。ハンスレット、海を見てゐる。船が近づいて来る。ハンスレット、カルヴァートを呼ぶ）
~~~Hunslett. Phil! Someone's coming.
「フィル！　誰かが来る。」
~~~Sir Arthur. 'You've messed up the whole thing.'
「お前は計画を滅茶滅茶にしてしまつたな。」
~~~Calvert. Sorry. Must pack up.
「すみません。無線機を隠さないと。」
~~~Sir Arthur. Any usefulness or effectiveness you might have had has been dissipated.
「お前がし遂げたかもしれない有益性も効果も、もうこれで台無しだ。」
~~~Calvert. Can't talk now. Goobye.
「今は喋れません。失礼。」
（と、無線を切り、無線器を隠し始める）
~~~Sir Arthur. We've lost two friends. We've lost the vessel.
We've lost the secrecy.
「二人人員を亡くし、船は見失つて、おまけに隠密の調査だつたのに、それも敵にばれてしまつた。」
~~~無線係.（サー・アーサーに）We've lost him, sir.
「相手はもうゐません。」
~~~Sir. Arthur. Calvert? Calvert!
「カルヴァート？　カルヴァート！」
（カルヴァートがなかなか甲板に上つて来ないので、ハンスレット）
~~~Hunslett. Hurry!
「急いで！」
（カルヴァート、間に合つて、甲板に上り）
~~~Calvert. Morning, gentlemen. Have you brought the milk?
「お早うございます、皆さん。ミルクを持つて来てくれたんで？」
~~~MacDonald. Morning. I'm Sergeant MacDonald from Torbay police station. These gentlemen are Customs officials.
「ああ、お早う。私はサージェント・マクドーナルド。トーベイ警察のものだ。こちらは関税の係。」
~~~Calvert. Are they? That's an interesting life.
「ほほう。それは実入りのいい仕事ですね。」
~~~税関. Is this your boat, sir?
「これは君の船かね？」
~~~Calvert. Yes, it is. Or rather it's my employer's.
「さうです。正確に言へば、私の雇い主のものですがね。」
~~~税関. And who is that?
「雇い主つてのは誰なんだ。」
~~~Calvert. The government.
「政府です。」
~~~税関. The government?
「政府？」
~~~Calvert. Yes. Didn't you see the flag?
「さうです。あの旗、見えるでせう？」
（イギリスの国旗が船に立つてゐる）
Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Marine biologists. We're a kind of floating laboratory. All sorts of odd specimens.
「農林水産省。海の生物の調査が仕事です。 この船は水上研究室といつた物で、いろんな珍しい標本もあります。」
~~~税関. We're looking for chemicals that were stolen from Ayrshire last night. Apparently they came north by sea.
「夕べ、エアシャーで化学品が盗まれて、どうやらその船は海を北に進んだらしい。」
This is the third port we've checked and the 13th boat. Just routine, you see.
「この港は調査開始から三番目の港、それから君の船は13番目の船だ。いつもの仕事でね。」
~~~Calvert. You must be exhausted. why don't you come below - my friend makes very good cocoa.
「それはお疲れでせう。下に行つてココアでも飲みませんか？　相棒はココアを作るのがうまいんです。」
（警察と税関の役人達、下の船室に行く。ココアで乾杯）
~~~Calvert. Cheers.
「乾杯。」
~~~税関. Thank you. Might I photocopy these?
「有難う。ところで、これをコピーしていいかな？」
~~~Calvert. Sure.
「勿論。」
~~~税関. Yes, I have a portable photocopier.
「携帯用コピー機はあるんだが（電源が・・・）」
~~~Calvert. OK. You're welcome to look around.
「分つた。そのへんにある。適当に使つてくれ。」
~~~MacDonald. I don't think that's necessary.
「そんな必要はないだらう？」
~~~税関の部下. I'd like to see the engine rooms.
「エンジン・ルームが見たいんです。」
~~~Calvert. Perhaps Mr Hunslett will show the Sergeant the living quarters?
「ミスター・ハンスレット、サージェントを居住空間に案内して。」
~~~Hunslet. This way.
「こちらです。」
~~~税関の部下. You carry a lot of batteries. Why all the power?
「バッテリーの量が多いな。こんなに何故電力が必要なんだ。」
~~~Calvert. We've got eight electric motors in the lab
「研究室には、電気モーターが8個あります。」
for when we're in harbour which means we can't use the engines to supply the juice for them.
「何故なら、港に入るとエンジンを止めますから、研究室にはエネルギー源がなくなる。その時に使ふモーターです。」
Then there's the central heating, hot water and the electric winches. And, of course, my electric toothbrush.
「それに、セントラルヒーターはある、熱い湯がいる、電力を使ふウィンチはある。それに勿論、私の電気歯ブラシにも電力がいりますからね。」
~~~税関の部下. Yes, of course. Boats aren't really my line.

~~~Hunslett. The law were genuine. You can't imitate coppers as good as that.
「連中は本物だ。記章をあんなにうまく偽造は出来ない。」
~~~Calvert. The Customs weren't. They said they'd been on 13 boats. They look like they've come from the cleaners.
「税関の役人は偽物だ。『君の船は13番目の船だ』と言つたぞ。まるでクリーニング屋だ。」
One said, ''Boats aren't my line.'' What sort of remark is that? It's like Uncle Arthur saying he's never heard of cricket.
「それから『船は私の得意分野ぢやない』とは何だ。アンクル・アーサーが『クリケット？　聞いたことがない』といふやうなものだ。」
~~~Hunslett. I'll tell you something else. They didn't have a photocopier.
「それから別の話がある。連中はフォトコピアーは持つてゐなかつた。」
（二人、船にあるフォトコピアーを見に行く。使はれた形跡あり）
~~~Calvert. Ah. No respect for other people's property.
「やれやれ。他人の物だと思つて、酷いことをする。」
~~~Hunslett. There's blood all over it. He must have hurt himself.
「血だらけですね。怪我をしてゐたんだ、これは。」
~~~Calvert. That's why he didn't take his gloves off. He hurt his hand.
「だからだな、手袋を全く取らなかつた。手を怪我してゐたんだ。」
~~~Hunslett. Did he?
「手を怪我か。」
~~~Calvert. Yes. I shoved a knife through it. Last night on the Nanceville.
「さう。ナイフで掌（てのひら）を突き通した。夕べ、ナンスヴィルで。」
~~~Hunslett. Did you?
「突き通したつて？」
~~~Calvert. Yes.
「うん。」

「あんたが来たからぢやないの？　こんなに悪い天気になつたの。」
~~~Calvert. No, haven't I? May I use your phone? Long distance.
「さうだな、さうかもしれない。電話、いいかな？　長距離だが。」
~~~女主人. None of the phones are working.
「電話はどこもかしこも駄目。」
~~~Calvert. Where's the nearest phone?
「どこ？　近くで使へる電話がある場所は？」
~~~女主人. The mainland. But the boat's sailed this morning.
It won't be back for four days.
「島ぢや駄目ね。本土へ行かないと。でも今朝のボートは出てしまつたし、四日間は帰つてこないわ。」
~~~Calvert. Well, I'd better stock up on some tobacco. Could be a long winter.
「さうか。煙草は買いだめしておいた方がいいらしいな。長い冬になりさうだ。」
（カルヴァート、店を出て、道路を進む。電線が落ちてゐる。拾つて、切口を調べる。事故とは思へない切口らしい）
(車が来る)
（警官のマクドナルド（船の検査で会つた警官）が降りてきて）
~~~MacDonald. You'll not find many marine specimens up here, Mr Calvert.
「ああ、ミスター・カルヴァート、この辺りぢや、海の標本などあまりないやうだな。」
~~~Calvert. Just getting some exercise, Sergeant. Cooped up on that boat all day, I just want to stretch my legs.

（ハッチンソンの船、木の扉を押し破り、敵の待ち受けてゐる所に入る）
（ラヴォールスキー、出て来て）
~~~Lavorski. Don't move! You're covered on all sides! Put down those guns! Slowly.
「動くな！　お前達は囲まれてゐる。銃を置け！　ゆつくりと、だ。」
（ハッチンソンの乗組員達、機関銃を置く）
~~~Lavorski. That's it. Thank you.
「よーし、それでよし。ご苦労。」
（サー・アーサー、出て来て）
~~~Sir Arthur. I'm so sorry. I'm afrald we're trespassing.
「いやあ、失礼した。どうやら、道を間違へて、変なところへ踏込んだらしい。」
~~~Lavorski. Yes, you are. I believe Calvert is loose somewhere in the grounds. My wife left her last radio message rather late.
「その通りだ。カルヴァートもこの城のどこかに、今ゐるらしい。私の妻の最後の連絡がちよつと遅かつたのでな。（今知つたんだ。）」
~~~Sir Arthur. Your wife?
「（ラヴォールスキーに）お前の妻だつて？」
~~~Delon. To love, honour and obey.（と、無線機を見せる）You know how it goes.
「愛し、崇め、従ふ、妻の役目。細工は分つたわね？」
~~~Lavorski. Get out of the way, darling. I don't want you to get hurt.
「その場を離れるんだ、早く。お前に弾が当るとまづい。」
（カルヴァート、滑車を放す。滑車、敵の一人に当り、海に落ちる。その隙にハッチンソンの部下達、銃を取り、発砲する）
（双方撃ち合ふ。カルヴァート、手榴弾を投げ、ラヴォールスキーを殺す）
（カルヴァート、小屋に入る。そこにスクーラス、ゐて）
~~~Skouras. No! Please! You're making a terrible mistake.
「止めてくれ、頼む。間違ひなんだ、その考へは。」
~~~Calvert. All right.
「分つた。」
~~~Skouras. Charnley. Get Charnley!
「チャーンリーを。あいつだ、黒幕は。」
~~~Calvert. Lord Charnley of Lloyds?
「ロイド（イギリスいちの保険会社、あのロイドか。不明）のロード・チャーンリーが？」
~~~Skouras. Yes!
「さうなんだ！」
~~~Calvert. My God, there's nothing sacred.
「やれやれ、聖域といふものはないのか。驚いたね。」
（チャーンリー、船で逃げようとする。それをカルヴァート、見て）
~~~Calvert. Hutchinson, stop him!
「ハッチンソン、奴を頼む。」
（ハッチンソン、銛を撃つ大砲を構へ、撃つ。チャーンリーの背中に当り、死ぬ）
（ドロン、一人、どこかへ逃げる）
（サー・アーサー、カルヴァートがスクーラスを連れてゐるのを見て）
~~~Sir Arthur. Oh, you got him then? well done. I was just coming to lend a hand.
「おお、そいつを捕まへたか。よくやつた。丁度手助けに行かうと思つてゐたところだ。」
~~~Calvert. He had nothing to do with it.
「この男は、事件には何の関係もないんです。」
~~~Sir Arthur. Nothing? Well, of course. That's what I always said, wasn't it?
「関係がない？　ああ、さう、勿論だ。私はいつもさう言つてゐただらう。な？」
~~~Skouras. Where's the girl?
「あの女はどこに。」
~~~Calvert. I wonder if she knows she's a widow. Excuse me.
「自分が未亡人になつたのはまだ知らない筈です。ちよつと失礼。」

（カルヴァート、ドロンを捜す。部屋にゐるドロンを見つける）
~~~Calvert. Ah, there you are.
「ああ、そこにゐたか。」
（カルヴァート、鹿の角の飾り物を壁から外す）
（角をドロンに向け、進む）
~~~Delon. What are you doing?
「あなた、何をするの。」
~~~Calvert. You don't think you're going anywhere, do you?
「逃げられると思ふな。分つてゐるな。」
（突進してドロンにぶつつける。角と角とに隙間があり、ドロンは傷つかない。ドロン、自分が殺されると思ひ、顔をそむける。傷つかないのを知り、カルヴァートの方を向く）
~~~Calvert. You didn't kiss me goodbye.
「さよならのキスはまだだつたぞ。」
~~~Delon. I would have written. Every day.
「キスなしでも、手紙は書くつもりだつたわ。毎日。」
~~~Calvert. From sunny Acapulco or somewhere.
「日光の強いアカプルコからか？　それとも、別の場所からかな？」
~~~Delon. Or from prison.
「或は監獄からね。」
（と、ドロン、ニヤリと笑ふ。カルヴァートも笑ふ）
~~~Calvert. You do keep rather bad company.
「ついた仲間が悪かつたな。」
~~~Delon. I was only being a loyal wife.
「私はただ、忠実な妻だつた、つてこと。」
~~~Calvert. And now you're going to be a loyal widow.
「そしてこれからは、忠実な未亡人か。」
（これでドロン、ラヴォルスキーが死んだことを知る）
~~~Delon. Then I can make a new start in life. Perhaps with you and...
「すると私、新しい人生が始まるのね。あなたとかしら？　それと・・・」
~~~Calvert. And what?
「僕と・・・それと、何かな？」
~~~Delon. Some of that gold down there.
「それと、あの金塊のいくつか、と。」
~~~Calvert. Perhaps. Who knows?
「まあね。運命なんて、誰にも分らない。」

~~~Sir Arthur. Calvert had the idea... Calvert and I had the idea
of finding out the underwriters of your shipping disaster.
「カルヴァートは誰が黒幕か・・・いや、カルヴァートと、私も考へた、誰が一体この『金塊泥棒』の黒幕かを。」
I never thought of Lord Charnley.
「ロード・チャーンリーだとは、私は思ひもつかなかつた。」
~~~Skouras. Yes. it was Charnley. I was being blackmailed.

「さう。チャーンリーだつたのです。私は強請られてゐて。私の財力、それに私を使つてカムフラージュする必要があつたのです。」

The trouble with Calvert is he's not really a gentleman. And now I know he never will be. Where did he get to?
「カルヴァートで困つたことは、あいつが本物の紳士でないといふ点にある。それから、この事件で、あいつが将来も、紳士にはなれないと確信したね。ところであいつ、何処に行つたんだ？」

「ものすごく重いんだぞ。持つたこと、ないんぢやないか？」

「一本で、アカプルコのホテルで贅沢をして5年は暮せる。まあ、あまりルームサービスをさせると駄目だがな。」
~~~Delon. Where are you going?
「あなたは、どこへ行くの？」
~~~Calvert. It's all yours. I don't like the sun. Gives me hay fever.
「君次第だ。ただ、僕は太陽が好きぢやない。花粉熱に弱くてね。」
~~~Delon. Do you want me to stay?
「私がここにゐた方がいい？」
~~~Calvert. I didn't want to make an honest woman out of you. I don't see us living in domestic bliss. Do you?
「君に、行儀正しい女にはなつて欲しくないな。それに、二人で仲良く、普通の幸せ、といふわけには行かんだらう。どうだ？」
~~~Delon. No. The nights would be good but the days would be a drag.
「駄目ね。夜はいいけど、昼は大変。」
~~~Calvert. Well, bon voyage. Don't spend it all at once.
「よし、ぢや、さよならだ。それ、すぐに全部使ふんぢやないぞ。」
~~~Delon. What chance have I of getting out of here without you?
「でも、あなたなしで、ここから私、どうやつて逃げるの？」
~~~Calvert. Not much, but a chance.
「まあ、難しいな。しかしやつて見る他はない。」
~~~Delon. All you're worried about is your job and you do it right. That's all you do. You're just a professional bastard.
「あなたのやることと言つたら、仕事、仕事、仕事ね。それを立派にやつてのけること。それだけの人よ、あなたは。あなたつて、プロ魂の糞魂。」
~~~Calvert. In the words of a late friend of mine... it's what I do well.
「死んだ友達（ハンスレット）が言つてゐた台詞だけど、うまく僕がやれるのは、それなんだ、つて。」
